IQNA – Egypt’s Al-Azhar Islamic Center condemned the Zionist regime’s attacks on the city of Rafah in southern Gaza, warning of a human catastrophe in the area.

Al-Azhar Islamic Center said in a statement that the Israeli regime’s dangerous plans to launch a ground invasion of Rafah, where some 1.5 million displaced Palestinians have sought refuge, would cause an unprecedented human catastrophe.

Referring to international calls for condemnation of the Zionists’ crimes, the statement reiterated the need for Muslim and Arab nations to unite against the aggression on Rafah.

A failure to help Palestinians immediately could lead to the martyrdom of thousands of innocent people, including women and children, who have taken shelter in Rafah fearing the Israeli regime’s bombings.

Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli regime’s premier, recently said a ground invasion of Rafah would be launched within two weeks.

While the regime has failed to achieve any of its goals in the war on Gaza, Netanyahu urged the army to destroy the Hamas resistance movement’s battalions in Rafah before the start of Ramadan.

Meanwhile, Israel’s Channel 12 television has revealed difference emerging between Netanyahu and the Israeli army chief regarding the invasion of Rafah.

It has also been reported that the United States has urged Israel to avoid attacking Rafah especially during the holy month of Ramadan.

Hamas, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Qatar as well as some European countries have also warned against an invasion of Rafah.
